My favorite way to get to know someone for the first time is over a cup of coffee, my hands loosely wrapped around the warm mug and the sound of espresso machines whirring in the background. The first thing my coffee date would learn about me is that I am an Integrated Media major. I chose to major in Integrated Media because I fell in love with the filmmaking process after taking a media arts class in high school for fun. Everything from writing out the script, to doing camera work, to editing the video and all the small things inbetween. Since being in college, doing class work is never something I dread because I find it fun and exciting. Expressing my creativity has always been something I’ve enjoyed doing and pursuing film as a career would allow me to do it on a daily basis.

I love talking about the goals I hope to reach while pursuing a career in the media industry. This passion of mine has been something that has been a huge part of my life since I first discovered my love for it when I was 15 years old. I have so many aspirations when it comes to this career. I want to be able to travel the world while filming movies and I want to make changes in the male dominated industry. Only 8% of women have directed top grossing films in the last year and I want to be a part of progressing that. I often make the joke that I will win the Best Director award, an award very rarely given to women, at the 2028 Oscars. Yes, I know this is unlikely but it is a dream that helps keep me motivated to do well in this industry.

I’m the kind of person that loves to listen to people talk about about their passions. There’s something about the way the person’s face lights up, how their eyes get big and they’re talking a mile a minute and can’t seem to stop waving their hands around in excitement that sparks joy in me. This is how I feel when I talk about working in the media industry. I’ve been lucky enough to go into college knowing 100% what I want to do. I know so many people who are stressed about where they see themselves working in the future, but for me the future completely excites me. I love the thought of moving somewhere new and meeting new people all while building a career and making a name for myself. I can’t wait to finally be out in the field and working for a movie that will change not only my life, but the lives of others as well.
